The analytics stack delivered billions in dashboards. What it did not consistently deliver was action. That gap is the reason Decision Intelligence (DI) is rising. Business Intelligence (BI) still matters. It organizes data, defines metrics, and shows what happened. DI builds on that foundation to recommend what to do next and, when appropriate, to do it. BI success is often measured in adoption and satisfaction. DI needs harder numbers tied to business performance.

  1. Decision latency. Time from trigger to action. Shorten it without cutting required approvals.

  2. Acceptance rate. Share of recommendations accepted without edit. Rising acceptance with stable outcomes signals improving fit.

  3. Override rate and reasons. Patterns in overrides reveal missing constraints or misunderstood trade-offs.

  4. Outcome lift. Realized benefit against a control for revenue, cost, or risk. Use holdouts or experiments where feasible.

  5. False positive and false negative costs. Track both sides of the error curve in money, not just in counts.

DI introduces new risks that require discipline.
